イラナ・ハルペリン創作プロジェクト：フォトレポート3 Progress Photo Report #3: Ilana Halperin's Art-Science Project
写真：青空に湯けむりたなびく鉄輪温泉。春が近いです。BEPPU PROJECTでは現在、スコットランド在住のアメリカ人アーティスト、イラナ・ハルペリンさんによる別府での創作プロジェクト『地質学的むつまじさ（湯の花）』の活動を、現地レポートという形でお手伝いしています。今回はその3回目です。
We BEPPU PROJECT are currently supporting 'Geologic Intimacy (Yu no Hana)', an art-science project by Scotland-based American artist Ilana Halperin. Our main role is providing on-site reports in Beppu throughout the development period. This is the third progress photo report.

今回のチェックで一番変化があったもの。前回まで赤茶色いポロポロとした手触りの成分が付着していたのですが、なんと黄土色になって粘土のようになっていました。ほとんどがお湯の水流に溶け出していったようです。不思議！
These ones showed the biggest change since the last check. Until last time they were developing rather crumbly textured brown-red deposits. But they became cray-like textured yellow ocher deposits. Most of them seem to have dissolved into the hot-spring stream. How interesting!
他のオブジェたちはモコモコ成分が付着して、太ってきました。
Other objects have developed more lumpy minerals and are getting fatter.
Only some hard clear crystals have been developing at the top of the sandstone object.
こちらのオブジェは源泉パイプの蒸気に蒸されているためか、薫製のようですね。前回より茶色い成分が濃くなってきました。
このフォトレポートも残すところあと３度！次回は春にアップ予定です。

The object installed within Yumetake, Hyotan Onsen's well-known hot-spring cooling structure. It seems that some ragged surface has developed. It is similar to the texture we can see in a limestone cave.
Yumetake itself develops crystallised hot-spring minerals on it - we can see some deposits growing more at the ends of the bamboo stalks.
These objects are the ones left in the hot-spring stream nearby the Gensen (origin of the spring) pipe. We can see that the brown-red deposits have grown. Hopefully it will grow further over time.
鉄サビのようにポロポロとした手触りの茶色い成分。成分の付着は前回からあまり増えていません。
Rather crumbly textured brown-red deposits like rust. The amount of the mineral doesn't seem to have grown significantly.
The brown-red deposit onto this object has gone more solid than previously. The end of the object seems to have layers of deposit.
For this sandstone object, added newly last time, lots of almost cocoa-looking powdery deposits have developed.
源泉の水流につけていた他のオブジェたちも、茶色い成分がぎっしり。このまま硬化していくのでしょうか...？
These ones that have been left in the hot-spring stream have also developed lots of brown-red minerals. Let's see if these are going to become more solid from now on.
The ragged pattern on the surface of the flat object at Sunahara Onsen has gone deeper.
新しく設置した砂岩の先には、やや透明な硬い結晶ができていました。The end of the sandstone object added last time has developed some clear-ish solid deposit.
左のオブジェは前回レポートしたものです。右の砂岩にはまだ成分がつきはじめたばかりなので、これからどう変化していくのか？左のように乳白色の層ができてくるのか？ 想像がつかないぶん、２ヶ月後のチェックが楽しみです。
The object on the left is the older one and one on the right is the newer sandstone object. Since the minerals seem to have just started developing upon the sandstone object, we have no idea that how it will develop over time - will some milky deposit emerge like the other one? What else? - it will be so exciting to check it two months after!
