The next KASHIMA 20132 (International Artistic Residency) will take place from September to October 2013 (dates to be confirmed).

Artists should think their projects on the theme "SPACE-TIME". The project will be shown in one or two streets in Beppu downtown in collaboration with the local activity (small shops, café, restaurant). Also, artists will be invited to participate to a forum-discussion with local population to talk and exchange ideas about the art work.

The npo BEPPU PROJECT runs an international artistic residency program in Beppu (JAPAN) within a five-year grant from the Agency for Cultural Affairs in Japan. Kashima, in Japanese, refers to the place where you stay when you heal your body and soul by doing spa-theraty in the onsen (natural hot spring). BEPPU PROJECT is running this International Residency Program to welcome artists and their creations from all over the world in Beppu city. We aim at bringing high level creations of the international artistic world into a local scene.

All the applications for this residency will be looked through with attention to the required documents (proposal, artist profile and example of a previous art work).

The selection results will be published on our website by mid-July 2013.

Previous residency: (FebruaryMarch 2013) KASHIMA - International Artistic Residency

For the last edition of the residency, we selected 2 art projects on the theme "A COURSE THROUGHOUT BEPPU CITY". The chosen theme was referring to the image of the massive natural hot water that is spreading all over underground the city. We wanted to make outdoors artistic projets accessible to everyone and that draw new path all across the city like a flux beating from the heart and through the veins to the furthest extensions.

Hadaka / Naked A Sound Journey, by Christophe Rault and Silvain Gire from ARTE Radio, a creative radio online (France)

Christophe and Silvain created a sound fiction that the audience can experience while walking through the city. It is an beautiful narration to listen to while letting your imagination floating with the sounds.
