KASHIMA - BEPPU ARTIST IN RESIDENCE

「KASHIMA」は、NPO法人BEPPU PROJECTが2008年より継続開催しているアーティスト・イン・レジデンスプログラムです。別府の温泉文化の中に息づく湯治のための宿泊形態「貸間」から名付けられたこのプログラムでは、海外から訪れたアーティストが別府の町に長期間滞在し、町や地域の人々との交流のなかで様々なインスピレーションを受けながら、作品をつくっていきます。


今回、「spacetime~時空~」をテーマに全世界から募集をし、約400通の応募の中から二組のアーティストが選ばれました。彼らは9月5日より別府に滞在し、リサーチ・制作をはじめました。

今回、この二組の作家による滞在成果発表展を開催いたします。



【Vol.1】ミハイロ・ジェヴチク＆イエレナ・クレネタ（セルビア Serbia）

彼らは別府の様々な場所を歩き、撮影を続け、膨大な映像のなかから厳選し、この作品を作りあげました。映像は、西法寺通り、元町梅園通り周辺の３箇所で展示をしています。どの場所も、別府の町や人に深く根付いた場所です。彼らの眼差しによる別府の風景と、あなたの見る別府の風景を重ねてください。

During the exhibition time, the film of Mihajlo Jevtic and Jelena Krneta will be screened in Beppu in unsual venues for art, such as shops and hotel.

These venues have been selected by the artists upon advice of BEPPU PROJECT. We chose to present the film in these venues because we want to make art easily accessible to the widest diversity of audience. We also believe that art can exist everywhere and should be connected to anyone, at any time and in any place.

We would like to thank Hotel Arthur, Tea Room Cozy Corner and Bochan Barber Shop for their cooperation in this art project.

【Vol.2】

マテー・アンドラス・ヴォグリンキク（スロベニア Slovenia）

別府を訪れ、町をリサーチするなかで彼が見つけたのは、いまは閉ざされ、使われなくなった共同温泉でした。マテーの目には、古く、現在は捨て置かれたようなこの場所が、物体として美しいものにうつりました。それは、別府の西法寺エリアという様々な歴史が重なる時空と、アーティストの生きる時空が交差した場所です。彼がこの場所にどのように関わり、作品を制作したのか、ぜひ確かめてください。

また、今回マテーが別府に数多く存在するトタンの壁や樋からインスピレーションを受けて制作した作品の展示も期間限定で開催します。

Matej Andraz Vogrincic stayed two months in Beppu, as part of the KASHIMA BEPPU ARTIST IN RESIDENCE on the theme "Space Time". He created new artworks that are an invitation to travel into the world of imagination.
Visiting Beppu, he discovered an abandoned onsen that inspired him the artwork: "The Rope".
In the onsen Matej noticed the taps and asked himself what could came out from there. Strange but bright images came to his mind, like images of a movie or like a cartoon.
Furthermore, he created a challenging artwork by experimenting the bamboo craft technique.

The space is the same, but not exactly the same. Come to see by yourself!

"KASHIMA - Artist in Residence" is a residence program that BEPPU PROJECT hold in Beppu since 2008. In Japanese, "kashima" refers to the name of the place where you stay when you heal your body and soul in a bath/spa area. One of the aim of this residency is to promote and develop, in connection with local community, the artist and its creation.
